Last week we travelled North. As a GCA Horticulture Judge I am required to attend a yearly workshop to brush up on the latest tweaks to the rules, and to share ideas and insights with other Judges. Coinciding with perfect timing was an opportunity to judge stone troughs in Darien CT and attend a meeting of the New Canaan Garden Club. Visiting the Waveny Walled garden that I worked in with friends for many years was a highlight of the trip. This Frederick Law Olmstead Garden is a treasure. 
I was honored to work on a rejuvenation design of the garden several years ago.
That was all the fun of the trip, but we had some work too! Helping our daughter to move from Greenwich to Stamford. Packing, packing, packing.
There isn’t a tonier or more breathtaking town than Greenwich, in the New York area. The drive through the North country is mind boggling; the wealth of this town is staggering, but it is best for old people (like me). Stamford along the shore is the opposite of the staid and traditional Greenwich. Stamford is a growing, young town. Evidence is in the developing area around the harbor. Daughter has moved to Harbor Point.
With outdoor spaces planned
and walking distance to the Long Island Sound and marinas, it combines the excitement of city living with the relaxing and reviving tempo of outdoor life. The high rises are designed with a nod to the younger sensibility and eye.
A short walk to the Stamford train station gets you to New York City in no time. This trip didn’t allow for us to make that journey to the Big Apple, but that just means another trip North will have to be planned soon!
