For a gardener there is nothing nicer in November than fresh flowers. Our gardens are tucked away. Even the last aster that bloomed through the cold nights has been struck with frost, and a bouquet from the yard is hard to come by. So the Garden Club meeting with Maureen Laning sounded appealing this morning. I am not a floral designer and have no skill or talent in that area, so I am often bored with floral design presentations. But I am so glad that I decided to attend this one!!. Maureen who has been an instructor for the New York Botanical Garden and owns a florist shop in Bedford, NY was so entertaining and so creative, that I was completely engrossed. She had ideas for the Thanksgiving table
and for the Christmas season upon us.
Her use of lush flowers and imaginative containers was enthralling. At the end of the demonstration, the arrangements were raffled off. I WON! I took home the top of this arrangement.
I invited a few friends to come back to my house for tea and biscotti and we all enjoyed the centerpiece of roses, peonies, lisianthus, and dianthus.
I decided to break up the arrangement and let each of my friends take home some of the flowers. We made an extra bouquet for one of our dear friends who couldn’t make the meeting due to health and delivered it to her home.
Every member of the club, even those who did not score at the raffle, was invited to choose a container of blooms to take home. 75 to choose from – thank you Maureen! I will be visiting her Bedford Village Florist soon. She is having the Annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 7th, and I may have to wander up to that neck of the woods to see more of her amazing work with flowers!
Beautiful and even more so that you shared them.
