In February, a gardener in the Northeast feels a certain envy for the early Spring that comes to other areas in the United States. Certain blogs in TX and down South are reporting signs of life and even bloom in their back yards. While we in the Northeast are pretty much content with parsley sprouting on Southern windowsills or a struggling snow drop.
Our orchids next to Eastern windows must suffice to satiate our appetite for bloom.
We might wish we had done something more interesting in our terrariums, that small enclosed miniature garden world,
because the longing for the smell and feel of awakening Earth is strong. 
The richness of mossy decay feeding the moist coming-to-life violet is an undeniable pleasure for the housebound gardener. Note to self: plant up a keen little under glass world soon after Christmas NEXT year. Until then, try to keep envy of early Spring under wraps, for envy does no gardener any good!

Well, I’m envying your terrarium! I saw a glass terrarium for sale at a reasonable price, begged my husband (who was with me, otherwise I would have never asked), and my daughter (of all people!) told me not to buy it. Well, I didn’t have much ammunition to use with my daughter telling him I didn’t need it, either. But I know where it is, and whenever I can get there – by myself – that terrarium will be going home with me! So, see – envy runs both ways! 😉

I am currently without a garden. If only I had thought of planting a terrarium, I would be a much happier girl. I am tempted to start sweet peas just in case I have a garden in time for planting. I’m more than a bit whiny regarding the lack of a garden but have determined to follow your good advice re envy and forewith keep it under wraps. Have a beautiful day, Sue

I’m so sorry I’m just now thanking you for your visit. I’ve been away for a little surgery. Don’t be too jealous of our growth. This week is was in the 20’s and the worst week is yet to come for us. I actually have coneflowers that started to bloom last week. Unfortunately, they are in for a rude awakening. Thank you so much for paying me a visit. I always love to get new readers. ;0)

I know what you mean. It is hard at times to see snowdrops and other early spring flowers on blogs that hail from more temperate parts of the world. On the other hand, it also cheers me up to see that spring has arrived elsewhere. It makes me feel as if spring is creeping closer and closer.

I also envy their early spring, but not their brutal summers. My older son went to visit his girlfriends’ family in Oklahoma and said many people just don’t go outside several months of the year, just stay in the air conditioning.
