The Galley – Sky, sea, sand

Nantucket……the beach, sailing

blue skies, ocean, sand, sun.

Strip away all material baggage and you are left with

sky, sea, sand.

Sit at the beach and drink it in…oh, drink!  You can strip it all away but you still must drink and eat, and so add one more element to this perfect picture of Summer – The Galley!  Definition of galley?  The kitchen of a ship.  What am I getting at here?

The Galley Restaurant, Nantucket

For our family, more memorable sunsets have been spent dining here than anywhere else on this enchanted Island.  Ride your bike, drive if you must or take a taxi to the beach and prepare for the meal of your life.  Look at the outdoor dining where the waiter leans to provide for your every dining pleasure.  Laughter, tinkling of cocktails, smell of the sea….

The Galley, Nantucket

Please don’t seat me next to someone who doesn’t want the summer breeze in their hair – we sat next to a wonderful couple from the West coat and we asked that they open up the sheltering sides – let the breeze in!  Everyone loved it!

Not just a salad!

Sky, sea, sand, drink and food, and lovely interchange among strangers.  The couple seated next to us , originally from South Dakota and Illinois, now settled in Washington State,  were lovely.  His wise investment in Apple at the start provided a very nice life style in which he could enjoy a trip to the small island of Nantucket.  I am so glad they experienced a perfect night of bliss on a small island in the Atlantic!

Where do you go for a perfect Summer night of dining at the beach?

It sounds perfect – especially the breeze.
There are many places on this Island for dining beside the water – watching the dolphins and sometimes the orcas. I love it in the fall when the full moon traces a silver path across the water. One feels that it might just be possible to walk out onto it.

  2. Hey Jayne,
Since I can’t travel any more, I love these types of posts especially when it’s food. Since I was born in Sydney, my soul harkens for any beach. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Jayne,
As as fellow lover of sky, sea and sand (and nice meals), I thoroughly enjoyed your lovely post. We are 2 1/2 hours from The Gulf of Mexico, so we usually go to Panama City Beach, Florida, or Destin, Florida. A favorite restaurant in Panama City is Bayou Bill’s (love the soft shell crab there).
    All the best,
    Beth 🙂

Glad you are still enjoying yourself – that salad made me hungry just looking at it.
