Today was a great day for gardeners. Rainfall with overcast interludes made this a perfect day for taking indoor plants outside and for tucking in the vegetable seedlings. I am thinking RED today for some reason. Maybe it is the dinner I am hosting tomorrow evening that will need red wine.
Or the red I am featuring in my window boxes.Or the red maples I seemed to notice all over town while driving to the market. Red maples lend the high notes of color on a foggy misty day like today. In one neighborhood, I saw maple after maple.
One house did not have the red maples, but fit well into the scheme with red shutters and red front door. In this New England town, chock a block with white colonials, I find this red accent a breath of fresh air!
There won’t be any RED meat on the menu tomorrow (I don’t eat red meat). But I am not a total vegetarian (yet) and so chicken will have to do. When was the last time you marinated overnight for Chicken marbella?(Fresh bay leaves!)
Red maples have a home here on Weed Street. Some are seedlings taken from my parents’ home in New York State and one very special one was given to me by my best buddies on a big birthday. Fortunately it is a slow growing maple so no one will know how old I am!
There it is: Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Ever red’. Love it! Love red. And of course orange is a close second. Not a popular color, but a favorite of mine none the less. If you love red, just add a little yellow and you’ve got orange, have to love that too! I will be talking orange before the summer is over!
Wow! Getting pretty fancy-schmantzy with the blog!!! UB40 — now there’s a flashback — one of my favorite bands in a previous life. I think I saw them in Paris, opening for the Clash (hah! now there’s a pretentious memory).
I like red, too, because it’s the hummingbird favorite!

Thanks for your comment about our friend, Deana! Deana is not letting it getting her down. I think she even walked/ran the half Marathon in Pittsburgh yesterday. It is a battle being waged by too many at the moment! Our thoughts and prayers are with your friend as well.
