Irresistible Iris

I am late to post this week as there are birthday parties, bridal showers and our upcoming trip to Hilton Head, Charleston and Savannah!  But that doesn’t stop me from daily wanderings around the garden to see what is appearing.

This brave little rock garden iris was given to me by one of my serious garden friends and mentors.  She has something blooming in her garden each day of the year; a considerable accomplishment in Zone 6 but it can be done!  When the borders boast nothing but shades of brown and greythis pale blue iris reflects the prettiest Spring sky.  The hellebores are barely awaking here but the snowdrops, particularly the large Galanthus elwesii provide more life in the garden in this unpredictable month of March.

Seedlings have sprouted and the moveable nursery goes from the Eastern breakfast table to Southern windows looking for the longest day of sunshine along with pots of daffodils that sprang to life in the garage!  This one is Narcissus ‘February Gold’ which is the first to bloom though it cannot live up to its name in this Zone 6.

Officially Spring arrives next week while I am touring Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia.  Please no more snow, to greet my arrival home!
